Burkard Schliessmann records Chopin at the Funkhaus

The renowned German-American pianist Burkard Schliessmann recorded the second part of his «Chopin-Schumann-Anniversary-Edition» in the famous Hall 1. The album will be issued world-wide by the American label `MSR-Classics‘ in the fall 2010. Schliessmann recorded pieces composed by Bach (Partita c-moll, BWV 826), Schumann (Kreisleriana op.16) and Chopin (Ballads op. 47 u. 52). In order to benefit as much as possible from the excellent acustics, which Schliessmann described as „sensational“, he had his own Steinway grand piano delivered to the Funkhaus. Georges Ammann of STEINWAY & SONS provided professional support throughout the whole period. With Friedemann Engelbrecht and Julian Schwenkner of «teldex-studio Berlin» Schliessmann had a very professional team, technically capturing as well as recording the wonderful sound of Hall 1.

Schliessmann especially admired the special fusing of sounds in this hall holding up to all tempi and dynamic crescendi, thus creating a very individual kind of resilience, but also tension and atmosphere in his play. Burkard Schliessmann will come back to the Funkhaus for his upcoming projects.

The truth of the music and the truth of the sound reflect two inseparable factors for Schliessmann – and here at the Funkhaus a circle was completed.
